Ohio House Bill 186 provides property tax relief by limiting how much school property taxes can increase when property values rise. For residents in Meigs County, this means tax bills may grow more slowly than in the past, and in some cases, a credit may be applied to help offset increases. While the law does not eliminate taxes or change voter-approved levies, it helps protect homeowners from large, unexpected spikes—particularly in the school portion of their property tax bill.
2nd Half Tax Due Date 2026 The exact due date for second half taxes will be announced following Governor DeWine's review of House Bill 186, which has been passed by both Chambers. We will post an update here when we know more!

Your Market Value is multiplied by 35% to arrive at your Assessed Value. Your Assessed Value is then multiplied by the Effective Tax Rate for your political subdivision to arrive at your Gross Tax. The County Auditor’s Office is mandated by law to make ALL tax calculations on your behalf. The Treasurer’s Office is then required to bill and collect them.
Great question! This is also laid out for you on your tax bills, under DISTRIBUTION.
